Man and woman pronounced dead at scene of fatal crash on busy road

Police have launched an appeal after a man and woman were pronounced dead at the scene of a double fatal collision. Officers were called to the the A47 Leicester Road, near Belton in Rutland, shortly after 6.15pm on Friday, November 18.

The collision involved a red Hyundai i10 and a brown Citroen C4. Sadly the occupants of the Hyundai, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s, died at the scene. The driver of the Citroen was a man in his 30s, who suffered injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

The road was closed until 6am on Saturday, November 19) whilst officers carried out further enquires. Detective Constable Anna Thorpe, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), said: “Our investigation into the incident is continuing and I am asking for any motorists who were on the A47 to come forward.

“I’m particularly keen to speak to anyone with a dashcam in their vehicle, who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle prior to it occurring. I also know there may be some drivers who stopped at the scene but left prior to emergency services arriving.
