A man and woman have died following a horror crash on the A9 in Perthshire.
The collision took place at around 5.45pm on Thursday, October 6 when officers were alerted to the smash involving a Mercedes C200 car and a Man HGV having taken place on the road between Bankfoot and Birnam.
Emergency services, including Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service, rushed to the scene, but the male driver and the female passenger of the Mercedes were pronounced dead upon arrival.
The 37-year-old driver of the HGV was taken to Ninewells Hospital for treatment, and was later released. The extent of his injuries are not yet known.
The road was locked down overnight as officers launched an investigation into the crash. A diversion was put in place, and the road reopened at around 7.30am today.
Enquiries are continuing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the accident, and anyone with information on what took place is being urged to get in touch.
Sergeant David Farr, from the Road Policing Unit at Perth, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man and woman who died following this crash.
“The investigation into the crash is ongoing and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash take place who has not yet spoken to police to contact us.
"We are also keen to obtain any dashcam from motorists driving on the road around the time of the crash. Anyone with information should contact Road Policing Officers through 101 with reference 2569 of 6 October.”
