A man is accused of defrauding a friend who is quadriplegic out of more than $190,000 and has pleaded not guilty to hundreds of charges related to the allegations.
On Thursday, Jonathan James Maher faced the ACT Magistrates Court where he was committed to stand trial in a higher court.
He has pleaded not guilty to 272 charges comprising of obtaining financial advantage by deception and obtaining property by deception.
Magistrate Jane Campbell, in her reasons for committing the matter to the Supreme Court, said Maher had been charged for each bank transaction, some of which were "very low figures".
Ms Campbell said the total figure came in at more than $190,000 and allegedly "involves a significant breach of trust".
She stated the alleged victim had been Maher's friend and is quadriplegic, having appointed him as power of attorney and giving the alleged fraudster access to a bank account to pay bills.
The case is next set to go before a Supreme Court registrar.
