Man admits attempting to petrol bomb popular town centre bar

A man has admitted trying to petrol bomb a town centre nightspot.

John Kirk, 34, of The Hove, Murdishaw, Runcorn, appeared at Chester Crown Court on Monday, April 4, where he pleaded guilty to one count of attempted arson with intent to endanger life by destroying or damaging property.

Kirk was charged after what was intended to be a petrol bomb was thrown at Chambers bar on High Street in Runcorn shortly after 2am on Sunday, March 6.

He was arrested that day.

Cheshire Police described the item as a “flammable object”.

A force spokesman said there were no reports of any injuries and no damage was caused to any buildings.

Court papers said Kirk was remanded in custody to await sentencing on the afternoon of Friday, April 29 while the probation service completes a pre-sentence report.
