A MAN who allegedly stole a number of items from a supermarket at Cessnock and then repeatedly exposed himself has been refused bail.
Joseph Darren Williams, 37, represented himself when he appeared in a bail division court on Sunday charged with three counts of larceny, two counts of behaving in an offensive manner in public and carrying out a sexual act without consent.
He did not enter any pleas or apply for bail and it was refused.
He will next appear in Cessnock Local Court next month.
Police said they were called to a hall on Cumberland Street, at Cessnock, about 7.40pm on Wednesday September 16 after reports of a man committing acts of inappropriate behaviour.
Police launched an investigation and the next day they say they received multiple reports of a man allegedly taking items from a supermarket on Keene Street.
During the alleged thefts, police say Williams exposed himself both in the supermarket and outside.
Following further investigations, police arrested Williams on Cumberland Street on Saturday.
He was taken to Cessnock police station, charged and refused bail by police.
He was refused bail again when he appeared in bail court and will next appear in Cessnock Local Court on October 1.
