Man accidentally misses big business meeting after 'flying to the wrong city'

If you have to travel regularly for your job, the journeys can sometimes blend into one and it can be difficult to keep track of where you're going or where you've been.

And one anonymous man has found out the hard way that it's always a good idea to keep a diary of where you're supposed to be and when - after he claimed he ended up in the wrong city and was forced to miss an important business meeting.

The man, from the US, said he most commonly travels by plane between New York City, Dallas in Texas, Seattle in Washington, San Francisco in California, and Atlanta in Georgia.

Recently, he had a trip that would see him spend a few days in Seattle before heading to Dallas, but confusingly, his flight to Seattle included a layover in Dallas before he was due to be in the Texan city for his other meetings.

So when he saw Dallas on his ticket, he assumed he was supposed to be in the city first - and stayed there all day, missing his flight to Seattle and the important meeting he was supposed to attend.

In a post on Reddit titled "Today I f***ed up by missing a meeting because I flew to the wrong city", he claimed: "I have to travel a boatload for work, something like 100+ nights a year in hotels. It can kind of all run together and I don't pay a ton of notice to it anymore. The office handles the bookings and all so I really just have to show up.

"The main places I go are New York City, Dallas, Seattle, San Francisco, and Atlanta, with a couple of random others thrown in.

"I had a few day's trip hitting Dallas and Seattle so got on a plane this morning, flew to Dallas, hopped off, and grabbed an Uber to the hotel I usually stay at there. I figured I'd lounge around and get some work done for a bit before a late afternoon meeting.

"But the hotel said I wasn't supposed to be there until two nights from then. Turns out that I was supposed to be in Seattle. I had a layover in Dallas, and just out of habit saw the Dallas Airport so hopped out and grabbed an Uber instead of catching the second leg of the flight ... I did not make the meeting.

"I thought my layover was my destination so skipped a flight and missed a meeting because I was on the wrong side of the country."

Commenters were sympathetic to the man's plight, with many sharing stories about similar mistakes they'd made when travelling to various destinations - including one Brit who'd hopped on the wrong train and ended up heading to Bath instead of Bristol.

They said: "I did that same thing once in England. I was supposed to take the train from London to Bristol. Accidentally got on the train leaving for Bath. They were right next to each other on adjacent tracks. It was early morning and I didn't pay careful attention to which train I got on."

While someone else wrote: "I once had an East to West trip for a meeting. Non-stop flight and when I was over the Rockies, got an e-mail that the meeting was cancelled. Good times."

And a third said: "I can see this happening to me and I go to the same three cities every year."

Following his blunder, the man is now looking at reducing the amount he travels - especially now as he has twins on the way with his wife.

He explained: "I'm in the process of cutting back travel. My wife is pregnant with twins. So, A, as of now there would be like a 30% chance I'm not there when she goes into labour, and B, I don't want to be that dad who's always gone."
