An 85-year-old man has appeared in a Northern Irish court charged with murdering an 81-year-old woman.
Jim Moore was remanded in custody after a hearing at Newtownards magistrates court in County Down on Tuesday.
He was charged with murdering Patricia “Patsy” Aust, a retired teacher and grandmother whose body was found in a house in the Hawthorne Court area of Bangor on the afternoon of 2 June.
Moore, of Clandeboye Place, Bangor, spoke only to confirm his name and that he understood the charge during the brief hearing.
No details of the incident were disclosed but a detective inspector told district judge Francis Rafferty he could connect the accused to the charge.
There was no application for bail and the judge remanded Moore in custody to appear before the court again on 26 June.
Moore waved to people in the public gallery as he was led from the dock.
