Man, 72, in hospital after suspected hit-and-run near Ayrshire supermarket

An elderly man was taken to hospital after being struck by a car in a suspected hit-and-run in Kilbirnie.

The incident, described by police as a 'serious crash', happened at around 6.10pm on Tuesday, January 10 at Bridgend, near to Muirend Street and the town's Tesco supermarket.

The pedestrian, a 72-year-old man, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment where his condition is described as stable.

Police Scotland say enquiries are ongoing to trace the car.

Sergeant Gordon Stewart said: “We are appealing to the public for information as part of our ongoing enquiry to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

“If you were in the area at the time then please get in touch. We are keen to speak to any drivers with dash-cam footage that could assist.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2691 of Tuesday, 10 January, 2023.
