Last week, two people were charged in connection with the assault. They are Jay Byrne, 26, of Leyland Road, Southport and a 14 year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons.
After appearing in court, both were remanded into custody by District Judge James Hatton ahead of a further appearance before Liverpool Crown Court on August 11. The two defendants wore custody issue grey tracksuits, while 26-year-old Byrne appeared sporting mid-length blonde hair and a beard.
Five others have been bailed pending further enquiries. Police previously reported the girl as being 11 but has since corrected her age to 12.
