A man in his 50s is fighting for his life in hospital after two men attacked him in a house.
The 'serious assault' took place in Clane, Co Kildare this morning a short time before mid day. The man is being treated in Tallaght University Hospital where his condition is described as "critical".
The two men are understood to have fled the scene on foot after the assault. The gardai are appealing for witnesses in the investigation.

A spokesman said: "Gardai in Naas are investigating a serious assault that occurred on the morning of Saturday, 2nd July, 2022, in Clane, County Kildare. At approximately 11:20am, a man in his 50s was seriously assaulted by two males at a residence in The Avenue area of Abbeylands, Clane. The two males later fled the scene on foot.
"The injured male was taken to Tallaght University Hospital where he is currently in a critical condition. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or to any person with information to come forward."
Gardai are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were The Avenue area of Abbeylands between 11am and 11:30am to make this footage available to them.
