Man, 44, died in cell days after returning to prison

A man died 17 days after being recalled to prison for breaching his licence.

Jonathan Crooks, 44, was released on licence from HMP Altcourse on February 12 2020 after serving three months of a two year, three month prison sentence. But he was recalled after breaching his licence conditions the following day.

The builder's labourer, of Brookfield Drive, Aintree, was flagged as "high risk" when he was returned to the prison, and placed on a watch list for checks five times an hour.
