Man, 36, stabbed to death on residential road in North Kensington

A murder investigation is under way after a 36-year-old man was stabbed to death on a residential street in west London.

A member of the public flagged down a police car driving along Kensal Road, North Kensington at 6.42pm on Thursday.

Witnesses heard desperate bus passengers shouting “he’s been stabbed” as the victim lay fatally wounded.

The man had been attacked in an earlier altercation, the Metropolitan Police said.

Officers carried out immediate first aid and they were then assisted by paramedics from London Ambulance Service who were called to the scene.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “Despite the efforts of emergency services, the man died a short time later.

“Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man and notify his next of kin.

“A crime scene has been put in place. There have been no arrests.”

The killing was sparked by a row between two men on the street in front, eyewitnesses said. One told the Standard: “There had been a fight between two people on the street.

"The bus stopped and the passengers could see the guy laying on the ground bleeding.

"Because the bus was in the crime scene it was searched by forensics. The poor passengers had a terrifying experience.”

At the scene on Friday, a mother-of-four, 38, told the Standard: “There was shouting and then someone screamed, 'He’s been stabbed'.

“My friend was nearby she said there had been an argument then a fight. She was in total shock.”

Another said: “We heard there was an argument that got out of hand.”

Homicide detectives from the Met's Specialist Crime Command have been informed and enquiries continue.

A police cordon remains in place. A crime scene tent where police and paramedics tried desperately to save the victim marked the spot where the attack took place.

Forensics officers were also working inside the bus on Thursday night.

Meanwhile detectives are trawling though CCTV footage from the bus and shops along the street.

A pensioner who lives opposite said: “There were police everywhere and ambulances.

“It’s terrible that my daughter had to take her kids through a police line this morning. What’s happening to London?”
