A 60-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman from Liverpool were later arrested on suspicion of murder. They have been taken into custody and will be questioned by detectives.
The man was named locally by devastated neighbours and friends as Gary Morgan. His next of kin have been informed.
One woman described Gary as always being "bubbly and chatty", while another said "RIP Gary, sad news". Neighbours on the street said he would "always say hello" when passing by.
On Monday, neighbours living in the area described their shock after hearing the news. One person told the ECHO: "It's really, really quiet here" while another said "everyone keeps themselves to themselves".
People said they did see and hear emergency services arrive at the scene, but did not know what had happened. Speaking to the ECHO, one neighbour said: "I didn’t hear a thing and I saw the police at half 6/7am, I saw a police car outside the house. My neighbour said after midnight there was a police car there."
Another added: “All we saw was the police cars parked up at 12am, we heard nothing.” One person did say they heard "banging and shouting at 2am this morning." They added: "It’s dead quiet I’ve lived here for ten years."
Police and forensic officers remained at the scene today and forensic officers were seen carrying a number of evidence bags. An ambulance incident response unit was also in attendance but left at around 10.25am.
CCTV and house-to-house enquiries are being conducted in the area. Detective Chief Inspector Mark Drew said: “Although we have made two swift arrests in the area our investigation is still in the very early stages as we try to establish exactly what happened therefore it is vital that anyone with information that could assist our enquiries gets in touch.
“This was a tragic incident in which a man has sadly lost his life. If you live in the area and witnessed the incident, or saw any suspicious behaviour last night on Lavan Close please contact police immediately. Any information, no matter how small, may prove vital to our investigation.”
