Man, 30, charged with murder over ‘heinous’ attack in block of Ilford flats

A suspect has been charged with the murder of a 50-year-old man in east London.

Billy Keegan was found suffering from a stab injury in the corridor of a block of flats on Chapel Road, Ilford in what police called a “heinous crime”.

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended at about 1am on Friday.

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, Mr Keegan was pronounced dead half an hour later.

Muhamed Nur Osman, 30, of Knight Close, Dagenham, was arrested on Saturday.

He is due to appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court charged with murder and actual bodily harm.

Three men - aged 40, 36 and 28 - detained shortly after Mr Keegan’s killing were later released with no further action.

The investigation is being led by detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command.

Detective Chief Superintendent Lewis Basford said: “My thoughts are first and foremost with the man’s friends and family.

“I understand this incident will cause concern in the local community, but I’d like to reassure you that this investigation is progressing at pace led by specialist detectives.”

Detective Chief Inspector Kelly Allen, who is leading the investigation, added: “I’d appeal to anyone who has any information, no matter how small, to contact my team so we can ensure those responsible for this heinous crime are brought to justice.”
