Mr Bennett was then very sadly declared dead at the scene.

Services between Rochdale and Todmorden were temporarily halted for several hours on Sunday night, with replacement buses running, whilst officers dealt with the aftermath and carried out enquiries.

British Transport Police (BTP) said afterward the death was not being treated as suspicious and that a file would be passed to the coroner.

A spokesman for Rochdale Coroner's Court have now confirmed a file has been passed to them regarding the death.

An inquest is due to be opened next week.

Mr Bennett's death was the second on railway tracks in Greater Manchester within a matter of hours on Sunday.

In an unrelated incident, a man was declared dead at the scene after emergency services were scrambled to the stretch of track near Southmoor Road in Wythenshawe shortly before 4:20pm.

He has not been named but it has been confirmed he was an 18-year-old soldier based at the Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire.
