A 26-year-old was said to have been involved in an accident with a jet ski, with witnesses saying they saw a boat overturn.

Despite the best efforts of medics after they were rushed to hospital, the man died shortly afterwards.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "Emergency services responded to a report of a medical incident in the sea at Worthing Beach, shortly before 6pm on Monday, May 29.

"His next of kin have been informed."

The Coastguard said the man died after he became "separated from his jet ski" and they responded along with the air ambulance.

A spokesperson for the service said: "HM Coastguard, Sussex Police, South East Ambulance Service and an air ambulance responded to reports of a man separated from his jet ski off Goring-by-Sea yesterday, 29 May. At around 6pm a Coastguard Recue Team from Littlehampton and a lifeboat from Littlehampton RNLI were sent to the scene."
