Man, 21, arrested for drink-driving in Leeds as biker, 51, fights for his life after crash

A 21-year-old man has been arrested after a serious crash in Leeds yesterday.

Around 6.48am on Tuesday, December 13, a crash happened on Easterly Road and Boggart Hill Drive involving a motorbike and van. The road was closed for a number of hours.

The motorbike rider, a 51-year-old man, has been left seriously injured as a result of the crash. He was rushed to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

In an update, West Yorkshire Police (WYP) have now confirmed that a 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving. He remains in custody.

WYP are now appealing for witnesses to come forward. A spokesperson for the force said: "Police are appealing for witnesses following a road traffic collision in Leeds this morning in which a motorcyclist was critically injured.

"At 6.48am police were called to the incident involving a black Ford Transit van and a black Triumph motorbike at the junction of Easterly Road and Boggart Hill Drive, Seacroft. The rider of the motorbike, a 51-year-old man, was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition.

"The driver of the van, a 21-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in custody."

Anyone who witnessed the collision or the movements of either vehicle in the time leading up to it, particularly anyone with relevant dashcam footage, is asked to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team via 101 quoting reference 13220682676 or online via the live chat facility.
