Man, 21, arrested after person seen climbing The Shard skyscraper in London

A man has been arrested after a person was seen climbing up a 72-storey skyscraper in central London. The terrifying stunt appeared to show the person start climbing The Shard shortly before 6am on Sunday morning (September 4).

Police and the fire brigade were called to the scene after 5.30am, with a number of cordons erected as emergency services responded. A 21-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of trespass after a person began climbing one of the largest buildings in Europe, which stands 1,017ft-tall.

Two other men were also arrested by police on suspicion of causing public nuisance. The London Ambulance Service confirmed there were no reported injuries in the incident.

Video footage posted on social media site Twitter appeared to show a figure climbing up the side exterior of the landmark, which spans 72-storeys and is located beside London Bridge.

A spokesperson for the MET Police said: "Police were called at 05:38hrs on Sunday, 4 September following reports of a climber on the Shard. Officers, London Ambulance Service and London Fire brigade all attended.

"A number of cordons were in place while emergency services responded to the incident. A 21-year old man was arrested on suspicion of trespass. Two other men were both arrested on suspicion of causing public nuisance."

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service added: "We were called at 5.40am today (4 September) to reports of an incident at The Shard, London Bridge Street. We sent an incident response officer to the scene but there were no casualties."
