Man, 20s, hospitalised with serious injuries after late-night crash in Meath as gardai close road

A young man is being treated in hospital after being struck down by a car in County Meath earlier this morning.

According to a garda report, at around 1:30 am, the 20-year-old was hit by a car on the R161 Trim Road near Balreask Cross.

He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda for treatment, where he remains.

It is understood that his injuries are serious and that the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision was unharmed.

The road at the crash site is closed to allow for a technical examination to be carried out by Forensic Collision Investigators and gardai have confirmed that local traffic diversions are in place.

Gardaí are asking for any witnesses to come forward and are also appealing to any road users with video footage from the location at the time to make it available to them.

A statement released this morning from An Garda Siochana confirmed: “Gardaí at Navan are appealing for witnesses following a serious injury road traffic collision in County Meath on Sunday, 17th April, 2022.

“At approximately 1:30am a pedestrian was seriously injured when he was struck by a car on the R161 Trim Road near Balreask Cross.

“The pedestrian, a man in his 20s, was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda for treatment.

“His condition is understood to be serious. The driver and sole occupant of the car was uninjured.

“The road at the crash site is closed to allow for a technical examination to be carried out by Forensic Collision Investigators and local traffic diversions are in place.

“Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward and are also appealing to any road users with video footage from the location at the time to make it available to them.”
