Mamma Mia! ABBA event raises over £7000 for charity

Mamma Mia! There was Money, Money, Money raised at a recent 'ABBA Bubbles and Brunch' event for two charities.

Organised by Alex Rea of Carstairs in memory of her late auntie, the fab and fun fundraiser raised a phenomenal £7285 from donations and ticket sales.

The money was then split equally between two charities - Breast Cancer Now and Lanarkshire-based charity, The Haven.

A diagnosis of a life-limiting illness can be a traumatic and life-changing event, not just for the person living with the illness, but for their entire family. Alex’s auntie Anne received support from The Haven throughout her diagnosis, however, sadly lost her battle with cancer earlier this year.

She remembers her aunt as a kind, brave, beautiful woman who would light up every room. A true lover of life, and one in a million, who is deeply missed by many and Alex felt it important to remember her with the Abba Bubbles and Brunch event.

Alex said: “The work The Haven does is absolutely amazing, and I know how much it means to those who use the service and their families. My auntie Anne loved coming to the Haven throughout her battle with breast cancer."

The Haven, with centres in Blantyre, Forth and Wishaw, provides practical and emotional support to complement medical treatment provided through the NHS - with the aim of alleviating physical and emotional distress by providing information and support at all stages of illness and by supporting clients and their families to live life positively with hope – facing the future together.

Alex was determined to organise an event that she knew her auntie would have loved, and to raise as much money as possible for worthwhile causes who help support those who need it most.

She added: “The support given to my auntie by The Haven was truly amazing throughout her battle with cancer. I wanted to make auntie Anne proud, and put on a fun-filled event that I know she would’ve loved”.

The fundraiser was promoted online, and guests who purchased a ticket ahead of the event were treated to a range of entertainment, including: drinks on arrival, grazing boards and hot rolls, sing-alongs and dancing, sweetie carts, an ABBA tribute show from Chris Scougal Entertainment and much more.
