Zohran Mamdani has defended his meeting with Donald Trump at the White House after a photo of the pair in the Oval Office went viral.
On Thursday (26 February), the New York mayor shared a photograph of himself and a beaming Mr Trump at the Resolute desk. He described their meeting as productive and said he was “looking forward to building more housing in New York City”.
Speaking about his meeting with Mr Trump on Friday (27 February), Mr Mamdani said that it was his responsibility as mayor to communicate with the US president, though stressed this was always done with New Yorkers at the forefront.
“I will always ask how we can make it easier for New Yorkers to live here, to be safe here and to dream here.”
