New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced Monday that Bryant Park will host a free watch party for up to 5,000 fans during Game 3 of the NBA Finals, offering Knicks supporters a new gathering place after security concerns tied to President Donald Trump's attendance forced the cancellation of the originally planned event outside Madison Square Garden.
"The Knicks are home, and our city is ready to show out," Mamdani wrote on social media. "We're hosting a free watch party for 5,000 New Yorkers tonight in Bryant Park."

The move comes less than 24 hours after city officials, the New York Police Department and the U.S. Secret Service determined that the traditional outdoor watch party at Plaza33 outside Madison Square Garden could not proceed because of heightened security requirements surrounding Trump's visit to Game 3.
Trump is expected to attend the game as the Knicks return home holding a 2-0 lead over the San Antonio Spurs in their first NBA Finals appearance since 1999. His presence triggered extensive security protocols around the arena, including additional street closures, airport-style screenings and restrictions on public gatherings near Madison Square Garden.
The cancellation of the MSG watch party disappointed thousands of fans who had hoped to celebrate the historic Finals run outside the arena. The outdoor events had become a centerpiece of the Knicks' playoff resurgence, drawing large crowds throughout the postseason.
According to the mayor's office, Bryant Park was added as an official watch location after federal and local law enforcement concluded that the original site could not safely accommodate fans while the presidential security operation was underway. The event is free but requires advance registration and will cap attendance at 5,000 people.
"These watch parties have become a celebration of New York City itself," Mamdani said in a statement. "From every borough and every neighborhood, this city has come together to cheer on the Knicks and share in a moment that belongs to all of us."
The Bryant Park gathering joins other city-approved viewing locations, including Wollman Rink in Central Park and Brooklyn Bowl, both of which have attracted large crowds during the Knicks' playoff run.
The original cancellation also came after officials cited crowd management concerns following incidents during previous watch parties. Authorities reported multiple arrests after celebrations surrounding recent Finals games, adding another layer of concern as security planners prepared for a presidential visit.
