The Election Commission on Friday allotted the name “Mamata All India Trinamool Congress” and a football player symbol to the group led by former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, following a dispute over the identity of the political party ahead of by-elections and post its historic defeat in the assembly vote earlier this year.
The rebel faction, led by Arup Roy, has been allotted the name “Democratic Trinamool Congress” and the envelope symbol.
