NAGPUR: A bronze medal finish in the Odisha Open gave Malvika Bansod a new high in the latest world badminton rankings announced on Tuesday. The 20-year-old moved six places up and is now ranked 61st among the women's singles shuttlers in the world.
In the rankings released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), Malvika jumped from 67th to the 61st position with 29,262 points. For her entry into the semifinal of the recently held Super 100 tournament in Cuttack, Malvika gained 3,850 points to reach her career best rank in the women's singles.
In the India leg of three World Tour events held last month in New Delhi, Lucknow, and Cuttack respectively the left-hand shuttler took a giant leap of 50 places in the rankings while collecting a total of 14,840 points.
As per the BWF standings, she maintained her place as India No 4 behind PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and Aakarshi Kashyap. Malvika is being closely followed by Ashmita Chaliha at the 62nd position.
City's doubles specialist Ritika Thaker with her Mumbai partner Simran Singhi too touched a new high in the women's doubles. The Nagpur-Mumbai duo are now ranked 78th with 21,090 points.
