Malin Andersson shares photo of her scars as she calls for domestic abuse awareness

Malin Andersson has shared a photo of her neck scars as she urged the government to do more for domestic abuse victims.

The former Love Island star uploaded the snap, with a trigger warning, on social media, as she described the pain she went through trying to bring her violent ex-boyfriend Tom Kemp to justice.

He was jailed in September 2020 after being convicted of assaulting her in a brutal attack, which left her with broken bones and bruises, and Malin described the “constant worry” she had while preparing herself for the exhausting court case.

She called on the government to do more to help domestic abuse victims, and also urged them to start educating kids in schools about it.

In the lengthy caption accompanying the harrowing picture of her bruises, Malin said Tom accused her of being a “liar with mental health issues” in the run up to the court case.

Tom changed his plea to guilty “at the eleventh hour”, leaving Malin convinced “angels were looking after me”.

“I cried in sheer relief,” she admitted. “I’d finally got justice, and even though he served only three months of his sentence, I was vindicated.”

She said she has a “heavy heart” when she looks back on the stressful time, and said she had to go “back and forth for over a year” submitting evidence.

“To get justice, but then to also hear that was released after just 3 months. The bittersweet moment of a survivor. Even getting him sentenced was difficult,” Malin said, as she revealed the video footage she had taken was “really bad”.

“Per 100 domestic abuse related police calls, only 33 arrests are made. With demands on domestic abuse helplines increasing 22% since March last year, surely this is a cry for help for the government to do more,” she wrote.

Malin called for “more education” on relationships and domestic abuse in schools and universities across the country.

“I feel we need a prevention.. rather than having to find a cure for this. I want the younger generation growing up made aware of what red flags are; what a narcissist is.. what’s normal and what isn’t isn’t,” she added.
