Malik Tillman ready for Rangers challenge after clinching switch from Bayern Munich

Ibrox

MALIK TILLMAN is relishing the challenge at Ibrox after Rangers clinched a loan move for the highly-rated Bayern Munich midfielder.

Herald and Times Sport revealed on Friday morning that Giovanni van Bronckhorst had won the race to sign Tillman this summer as Rangers saw off competition from several clubs to secure his signature.

The 20-year-old has agreed terms on a deal until the end of the campaign and Rangers have an exclusive option with Bayern if they wish to make the switch permanent next term.

Tillman said: “I am really excited to sign for Rangers and I’m looking forward to getting started.

“It is a new challenge for me at a huge club with fantastic supporters and I can’t wait for the season ahead.”

The deal for Tillman continues Van Bronckhorst's rebuilding job ahead of the new Premiership term and the start of Rangers' European adventure next month as they prepare for their Champions League qualifiers.

The American internationalist becomes the fifth signing of the summer at Ibrox and will fill the void left by Joe Aribo's departure to Southampton as he is tasked with providing extra firepower from the middle of the park.

Van Bronckhorst said: “I am very pleased to welcome Malik to our squad ahead of the 2022/23 season.

"He is an exciting young talent who will further add to our attacking options and myself and the coaching staff are looking forward to working with him.”

Rangers have also secured deals for John Souttar, Antonio Colak, Tom Lawrence and Rabbi Matondo this summer and further moves are expected in the coming weeks.

Tillman emerged through the ranks at the Allianz Arena before making his debut last term and Ross Wilson, the Rangers sporting director, is excited to see the playmaker in Light Blue this term.

“We are pleased that amongst his many options Malik has chosen to become a Rangers player," Wilson said. "He’s a talented young man, one that we have been working on for a number of weeks.

"Not only are we pleased to welcome Malik for the season ahead we have also secured an exclusive option to buy with Bayern Munich. We thank Bayern for their cooperation across all of our discussions.”
