Ambitious plans have been submitted to upgrade a “dilapidated” 19th century Ayrshire farmhouse and former dairy - and drag it into the 21st century.
Proposals are in place for significant restoration and refurbishment work at Sessionfield Farm, which lies four miles south east of Ayr Town Centre.
The aim is to expand and convert the historic buildings in order to provide more accommodation and create a “modern family home appropriate for 21st century living".
A previous application for planning consent for the site was submitted in April this year.
However, it was subsequently withdrawn on the advice of South Ayrshire Council's planning department.
Among their concerns were that not enough of the existing building was being saved.
As a result the applicants went back and revised their design.
Now the hope is the new design wins approval.
A statement from the agents, David Blaikie Architects, said: “The primary aim of this planning application is to restore and extend the original farmhouse cottage and convert the adjacent courtyard buildings to create additional accommodation.
“This application also proposes to replace an adjacent redundant storage shed with new annex accommodation within the application site.
“The proposal will ensure Sessionfield House will remain an active dwelling in the countryside for many years to come.”
The architects also said the alterations would have a “positive impact” on the properties’ “sustainability” as the work will “greatly improve” its energy efficiency.
The firm also stated that the work would be undertaken “carefully” and "sensitively” to ensure the character of the old dairy farm is retained, or enhanced.
The report adds: “Our proposal looks to upgrade and partially replace the dilapidated farmhouse and former redundant dairy outbuilding to create a modern family home appropriate for 21st century living.”
The proposals are listed as ‘pending consideration’ on the South Ayrshire Council online planning portal.
