Nobby Solano has urged Newcastle United to right the wrongs of their 1999 FA Cup final defeat against Manchester United when the two sides meet at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
The Peruvian starred in Newcastle's last appearance at Wembley, which ended in a 2-0 defeat against Sir Alex Ferguson's eventual continental treble winners Manchester United.
Solano has been recalling the events from 24 years ago. He admits how a lack of preparation cost Newcastle dearly on the biggest stage, but insists that that doesn't have to be the case in 2023.
“We did not prepare 100 per cent for the match. The coach Ruud Gullit didn’t have enough experience to prepare us. We’d lost a bit of confidence," Solano told The Mirror.

"Tactics can win a game, but we didn’t set up properly against a very good Man Utd team. Too open. Maybe sit back a bit. This Newcastle have to be prepared properly. Don’t take too much pressure. The manager can have all the stress!
"Then switch on when you are on the bus at the stadium. I’d just say: make history. Forget the legends of old, these guys can be the ones. They seem like a good bunch of boys.”
Solano started on the left of a four-man midfield in Ruud Gullit's 4-4-2 system, as first half goals from Teddy Sheringham and Paul Scholes ultimately condemned them to defeat.
Newcastle will be targeting redemption on Sunday, after defeating Tranmere Rovers, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Leicester, and then Southampton over two legs to book their place at Wembley.
And Newcastle's Wembley showpiece will provide the current generation with a prime opportunity to end their 54-year trophy drought.
