Make 2023 your most productive year yet by using the 'intention' method

Each and every year we tend to start with a list of things that we'd like to change about our lives - whether it be fitness goals, healthier eating, or spending more time with your family. More often than not, these New Years' resolutions inevitably fall by the wayside because we put too much pressure on ourselves to be perfect - but that doesn't have to be the case this year.

Sue Spencer, from The Spark Joy Collective has shared a way you can start each day with a spring in your step, and keep the motivation levels higher for longer - which is what we all need as we head into 2023.

Sue states that it's important to 'start the day with intention', rather than jumping into the day without thinking.

She said: "Each day I spend a few minutes making sure my workspace is clear. I pop my diffuser on with a fragrance to help me be productive (energising or focused) and then make a list of the top three things I’d like to achieve."

Choosing a 'top three' will help you to get things done - make sure the tasks lower on your list can wait until another day if need be.

Sue mentioned that the working from home now means that many people now have a multifunctional space in their homes that doubles up as their office during the day, and their bedroom or living space in the evening. For most, this is unavoidable.

She continued: "In an ideal world your work life is kept separate from these personal spaces, allowing you to switch off and relax in a calm, relaxing space where without any triggers from the day.

"If you have no choice but to use your bedroom as a work area then make sure that you pack away your work at the end of the day, removing papers, laptop, and any work 'stuff' into another room (or put things in a cupboard or basket out of view), change the lighting and light a candle to shift the atmosphere in the room and make it feel like a different space."

Something as simple as lighting a candle may seem inconsequential, but it can be really transformative in making you feel like your space is 'yours', rather than belonging to work.

Sue also recommends having an 'other room' basket when you declutter, to pop things into that don't belong in the room you're currently in.

The items in the basket can be returned to where they belong once you're ready to move into another space in your home.
