Major update on Patriots QB Drake Maye’s head injury, Week 9 status

New England Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye is currently in concussion protocol after taking a hit to the helmet in last week’s win over the New York Jets.

Coach Jerod Mayo shared an update on Maye’s current status ahead of the Patriots’ Week 9 road game against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. He told reporters that Maye would practice on Wednesday in a limited role.

The session will be no longer than 30 minutes, which puts Maye in the third phase of returning from concussion protocol, as the Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan pointed out.

That would mean Maye has a real shot at clearing the protocol ahead of the Week 9 matchup with the Titans.

Of course, not all concussions are created equally.

There’s still a possibility that Maye doesn’t clear in time for the game, and the Patriots would be forced to go with Jacoby Brissett as the starter.
