Major UK broadcaster knocked off air due to ongoing global IT outage

SKY News has been knocked off air amid reports of widespread IT outages affecting airlines, broadcasters and banks.

The broadcaster’s online output has gone down this morning, along with several other major businesses around the world amid a mass Microsoft outage.

It’s not yet known what has caused the issue, linked to Microsoft devices, but the tech giant said it is working to resolve the problem.

Sky News has apologised for the disruption to its live broadcast on Friday morning, saying: “We are working hard to restore all services.”

A Sky News spokesperson said in a statement to the PA news agency: “Sky News has not been able to broadcast live TV this morning, we apologise for the interruption.

“All the news is still available online, on the Sky News app, website, and across our social media accounts.

“We are working hard to restore all services.”

Microsoft said they are investigating an issue impacting users’ ability to access apps and services.

A spokesperson for the tech giant said: “Our services are still seeing continuous improvements while we continue to take mitigation actions.

“We still expect that users will continue to see gradual relief as we continue to mitigate the issue.”

Meanwhile Edinburgh Airport is also facing disruption due to the worldwide IT issue.

The computer error has caused departure screens to malfunction in the main terminal as passengers have been warned to expect delays.
