Major road to Bristol Airport closed for roadworks for some of half-term

Passengers travelling to Bristol Airport for the half-term getaway are being warning about some major roadworks near the airport. It does not affect the route most passengers will use to get to the airport from Wales, but it could cause some delays if you have booked parking at the airport's several zone.

The A38 south of the airport is being closed every evening between 8pm and 6am, until Wednesday, June 1, so the local council can carry out emergency repairs. The A38 is the main road that takes you from Bristol city centre to the airport.

It could affect travellers who need to be there two hours before an early morning flight.

The airport has issued several warnings, saying: "Road info: the A38 South of Bristol Airport (between Ashley Lane and New Road) will be closed for maintenance by North Somerset Council from this evening through to Wednesday June 1 between the hours of 20.00hr and 06.00hr."

This is the part of the A38 that will be affected by the closure. It is on the southside between the airport and Langford:

This isn't the first warning the airport has given for its passengers who hope to travel along that route to get to airport parking and jet off on their holidays. Last week the airport advised that the closure would mean its site could only be accessed via the A38 southbound from the Bristol direction.

That means anyone wishing to park in the Silver Zone car park during these hours will have to access via this route.

North Somerset Council advised motorists earlier this month of the improvements to the A38 at Redhill, and said to minimise disruption the patching works will take place at night.

A spokesman said: "The works are in preparation for surface dressing which is due to take place in early July. Anyone travelling between Bristol and Somerset on the nights of the road closure is advised to go via the A370."

The council is taking the opportunity of the road closures to remove some ash trees adjacent to the road which are suffering from Ash Dieback, a fungal disease which is often fatal. A rapid decline in the health of these trees means urgent action is needed to remove them for safety reasons, the council said.
