Major road closed by police after reports of serious crash involving moped and taxi

Emergency services are at the scene after reports of a serious collision tonight said to involve a moped and a taxi. Transport bosses have confirmed Gorton Road has been closed as a result by police between Longford Road and Broadstone Road in Reddish, Stockport.

Transport for Greater Manchester said the road was closed due to 'an ongoing police incident'.

The Manchester Evening News understands a taxi and a moped were involved. It's not yet known if there have been any injuries. The M.E.N. has contacted Greater Manchester Police for comment and for further details.

Buses have been diverted away from the scene and motorists have been advised by TfGM to find alternative routes.

The cordon is in place just up from the busy crossroads of Gainford Road and Mill Lane, near Reddish police station.

An ambulance is at the scene and two police vehicles are stationed at the entrance to the cordon. It's understood the collision was reported at around 7.20pm before emergency services were scrambled to the scene.

The road was fully open again by 9.15pm, said TfGM.
