Major road closed after early morning crash as commuters face delays

A MAJOR road in the Scottish Borders has been closed following a crash in the early hours of the morning.

The emergency services were called to the A72 junction with the A702 and Skirling following a report of a crash at around 12.50am on Monday.

Police have closed the road while the emergency services attend to the incident.

The force has advised commuters to use an alternative route while the stretch of the A72 is closed.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “The A72 is closed between the junction with the A702 and Skirling due to a crash around 12.50am on Monday, 17 August, 2026.

“Emergency services are in attendance.

“Please avoid the area and use an alternative route.”
