A large new student block could soon tower above a Nottinghamshire town.
Plans have been submitted for a student accommodation building, which could be up to eight storeys tall, to be built in place of the car park on Station Road, Beeston.
Approximately 420 bedrooms would be in the new block, which would run alongside Middle Street and Station Road.
The ground floor would have a commercial use and developers would create access to the site as well as car parking.
A spokesperson for Broxtowe Borough Council said: “The application is for purpose built student accommodation building including commercial use to the ground floor, with associated access, car parking, landscaping and infrastructure on land bound by Middle Street and Station Road, Beeston.
"The building is proposed to have a maximum of eight and a minimum of two storeys. The building is proposed to accommodate approximately 420 bedrooms.”
Previously the green light was given for the 'tallest building in Beeston' to be constructed at the site, which was also eight-storeys tall.
The plans consisted of 132 residential apartments, 50 car parking spaces, two roof gardens and a ground-floor commercial unit which could be used for anything from a concert venue to offices to bars.
Although critics of the design argued it was "monolithic" and would detract from the town’s character it was given approval in May 2020.
The current proposals have been put forward by Cassidy Group, who are also currently working on a number of large student projects in Nottingham.
The building would sit next to the Arc Cinema, which opened last year and is the centrepiece of the £50m landmark Beeston Square development.
The plans are currently pending consideration by Broxtowe Borough Council's planning department.
