Residents and commuters are being warned of potential disruption as tree works are to be carried out on three major traffic routes in Nottingham over the next three weeks. Nottingham City Council has warned that between February 20 and March 10, there will be tree works taking place on Lenton Boulevard, Castle Boulevard and Derby Road.
The works could affect residents on these roads, as well as road users and pedestrians in the area. However, to minimise the potential impact, the work will be carried out during non-peak hours.
These essential works are needed to ensure that the health and safety of the trees is maintained, whilst also minimising the risk of tree‐related damage. The work will help to maintain healthy tree structures, ensure clearances for road traffic and pedestrians and maintain clearances from properties, street lighting and road signage.

So that the works can take place, it has been agreed between the council and Highways Management that Lenton Boulevard will be closed between February 20 and 24, Castle Boulevard will be closed between February 27 and March 5, and Derby Road will be closed from March 6 until March 10.
The highways management team will also be installing mobile electronic signage leading up to the works to notify road users of the upcoming closures. People travelling through the area are being advised to consider using alternative routes if possible due to likely delays.
Some bus services using Derby Road will be affected, however, the details of diversions and any bus stop changes will be available from bus operators. Councillor Audra Wynter, Portfolio Holder for Highways, Transport and Parks, said: “These works to cut back some of the larger and stronger growing trees in the area are vital to the health of the trees and to the safety of road users, pedestrians and residents.
“There are constraints on the timing of this work but we have aimed to coordinate it to minimise disruption, including carrying it out during off-peak times. However, these are major routes which means delays are likely, so anyone who usually uses these routes are advised to consider alternatives while the works are underway.
“We recognise the important role of trees to provide homes for nature and improve the appearance of urban spaces and we continue with our ongoing commitment to plant 50,000 new trees by the end of the year.”
