A busy road in Gedling is set to be closed as part of ongoing works on the newly-opened Colliery Way. The much-anticipated Gedling Access Road, which has since been renamed, opened to motorists for the first time earlier this year.
Although the road is now open, work is still ongoing at the site with various roadworks planned in order for the road and surrounding areas to be fully completed and accessible for drivers. Nottinghamshire County Council has now announced a section of Gedling Road will be closed on Saturday, May 14 from 7am until 7pm.
The road will be shut at its junction with Arnold Lane. Nottinghamshire County Council says access along Mapperley Plains and Plains Road will be unaffacted. It is because new ducting needs to be laid along it, with the authority stating they are phasing work such as this to try and minimise disruption for drivers.

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire County Council said: "Works are now taking place on Gedling Road, including construction activities in the footway and verge area of the Gedling Road/Mapperley Plains corner. The team now need to lay new ducting across Gedling Road, these works cannot be carried out in phases and maintain traffic at the same time.
"We would like to thank you for your ongoing patience whilst our construction teams complete the next phase of works." Access to properties on the closed section of Gedling Road will be from Arno Vale Road and we would ask that only those accessing properties or roads off the closed sections go past the road closed signs. Motorists travelling in the area should use the diversion route on Plains Road, Breck Hill Road, Arno Vale Road and vice versa.
In recent weeks, earthworks have been progressing in the Arnold Lane area and two new curved sections of road to link the new five-arm roundabout on Colliery Way to Arnold Lane have now been formed. The council says that works are also progressing well on the new maintenance access to the golf club.
Since the closure on Arnold Lane was put in place, works have been ongoing at the junction under the control of the temporary three-way traffic lights to build the new traffic refuges, and to install the new ducting and infrastructure for the upgraded junction signals. The council says these works have been complex and construction teams have thanked the public for their patience.
