Major emergency services response after serious accident involving at least two vehicles in Little Hulton

There was a major emergency services response on a main road in Little Hulton on Sunday evening following a serious accident involving at least two vehicles. Manchester Road East was blocked off in both directions between Bridgewater Street and Hilton Lane following the incident.

Police scrambled to the scene and cordoned off the road. Pictures from the area show a huge response as emergency crews carry out enquiries within the cordon and beside a stationary red van.

The incident was first reported just before 9pm on Sunday evening (June 19). Nearby residents said they heard a 'crash' before seeing the whole road shut off, with a white tent also erected at the roadside.

The nature of any injuries is not yet known or if there have been any arrests in relation to the incident, but Greater Manchester Police have been approached for more information. The road is expected to remain closed late into the evening, with crime scene investigators and tactical units reportedly at the scene.

One woman, who lives with her child in flats nearby said: "I just heard a crash at ten to nine and I when I went to look, the whole road was blocked off and there was police, ambulances and fire engines and white tent." Another onlooker made reference to a motorcycle also being involved, but this is yet to be confirmed.

They added: "T.A.U. and multiple other police vehicles were arriving at the same time as two ambulances were leaving."

Following the incident, the Walkden Community Facebook page wrote: "There is a report of a serious car crash on Manchester Road near Bargain Booze, please avoid the area for now and our thoughts go out to those involved."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just before 9pm this evening (Sunday 19 June) we were called to attend a road traffic collision on Manchester Road, Little Hulton, involving two cars.

“Two fire engines from Farnworth and the Technical Response Unit from Leigh were quickly at the scene. Firefighters are working alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service and remain in attendance at this time.”

Early on Monday morning, Transport for Greater Manchester reported that the road would remain closed past the morning rush hour, affecting all traffic, including bus services.
