A SEARCH on a loch near Fort William is underway following reports of a person entering the water.

A large emergency service response, including Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team, the RNLI Oban lifeboat and an HM Coastguard helicopter was called to Loch Linnhe around 6.30pm.

The search is ongoing more than 12 hours after initial reports as coastguard teams from Salen, Mallaig and Fort William were sent to assist the police and fire services.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: “At around 6.30pm on Wednesday, December 4, HM Coastguard received reports of a person in waters at Loch Linnhe, Scotland.

“Coastguard Rescue Teams from Salen, Mallaig and Fort William were called to assist in the search, alongside Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team, the RNLI Oban lifeboat and an HM Coastguard rescue helicopter.

"Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are also in attendance. The search remains ongoing.”
