Major disruption to cross-border rail services after 'incident'

PASSENGERS travelling on cross-border rail services are facing disruption following an incident on the line

National Rail warned of disruption for a number of train services travelling from Scotland to England.

Trains running between Edinburgh / Motherwell and Carlisle face delays following a points failure between Carstairs and Lockerbie.

Trains may be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised to terminate at an earlier station on their route.

The following services are impacted:

• Avanti West Coast between Edinburgh and Birmingham New Street / London Euston
• Avanti West Coast between Glasgow Central and Birmingham New Street / London Euston
• Lumo between Stirling and London Euston
• TransPennine Express between Edinburgh / Glasgow Central and Manchester Airport
• TransPennine Express between Glasgow Central and Liverpool Lime Street

National Rail said disruption is expected to end by 10am.

Elsewhere, on Friday morning, ScotRail warned that passengers at Edinburgh Waverley and Haymarket may experience delays, alterations and cancellations to their services.

The rail operator said this was due to an "earlier operational incident".

While all lines remain open, ScotRail warned that disruption to services will be ongoing until staff and trains are back in position.

The incident was resolved shortly before 9.30am on Friday.
