Matt Doherty has become the first Irishman to sign for Atletico Madrid - after reaching an agreement with Tottenham late on deadline day to terminate his contract with the North London side.
Doherty (31) has penned an initial contract with the La Liga giants until the end of the season.
Earlier on Tuesday it was suggested that he would move to the Wanda Metropolitano on-loan.

It was confirmed last night by Spurs, however, that his time at the North London side was at an end, despite him having 18 months to run on his deal.
“We have mutually agreed to the termination of Matt Doherty’s contract to enable him to join another club,” read a statement.
It was followed minutes later by an announcement from Atletico that Doherty had signed on a free transfer - and would be presented to Atletico fans at lunchtime today.
Doherty joined Spurs from Wolves in August 2020 for €18m and made 71 appearances in all competitions, scoring three times.
His most recent goal came last month in a 4-0 win over Crystal Palace.
A former Bohemians prospect, he has been capped 29 times for Ireland.
