Major claim made about Chelsea star who 'wishes he was at Arsenal for Premier League title race'

Emmanuel Petit has claimed that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wishes he was part of Arsenal's Premier League title charge. The 31-year-old striker looks set to be left behind at Chelsea as Todd Boehly continues to revamp Graham Potter's side with exciting young talent.

Aubameyang, who sees his deal at Stamford Bridge expire in 2024, has fallen out of favour in west London with the Blues boss opting for Kai Havertz instead. The former Gunners captain has featured 11 times for Chelsea in the Premier League this term, directly contributing towards just one goals.

He's averaged only 48.9 minutes a game under Potter this season and the chances of asserting himself in the starting lineup look bleak following the arrivals of Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke. Arsenal are currently five points clear of second-placed Manchester City with a game in hand, while Chelsea sit 10th and remain some way from the European qualification places.

With his former club enjoying a title charge, Petit believes that Aubameyang regrets leaving the Gunners. The Gabon international broke several of Mikel Arteta's disciplinary rules during a poor run of form and he quickly fell out of favour under the Spaniard.

Soon enough, Aubameyang was stripped of the captain's armband and was forced to train alone. He sought an exit from the Emirates Stadium and left Arsenal on a free.

"I said at the start of the season when they [Chelsea] bought him it looked like a panic buy," Petit told Sporting Post. "Aubameyang is still a quality striker but he isn’t what he used to be.

"I think he lost his passion and I think after his spell at Barcelona he can see what Arsenal are doing without him. What Jesus and Nketiah are doing.

"Maybe he is thinking if he had the right attitude he could be part of what is going on there. Now with Chelsea, maybe there is a 'curse' with the striker, but Didier Drogba wasn’t cursed – the whole team is not working, there is something wrong at the moment.

"There aren’t many players playing well for Chelsea right now. Even Mason Mount! I don’t recognise him at the minute."

Aubameyang's latest appearance for Chelsea came off the bench against Liverpool. The striker was handed a nine-minute cameo as the Blues were held to a goalless draw at Anfield.
