The Government has given the go ahead for the construction of three new buildings for Dublin colleges as part of a major €250million nationwide project.
The project would see the construction of three new buildings at TUD Tallaght, TUD Blanchardstown and Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT). It is expected that the new buildings will lead to an increase in student capacity by over 2,300 students.
The announcement was made by Minister for Higher Education, Simon Harris, with six new buildings in total to be constructed at technological universities across the country. Minister Harris said: "This is a really important development in higher education.

"The construction of these buildings on multiple campuses across the country will improve the educational experience for current and future generations of students. It also represents an important milestone in the government’s Higher Education PPP programme and illustrates a commitment to investment in the higher education sector.
"We look forward to the construction progression of each of these six buildings over the coming years and look forward to welcoming the first students to the new buildings," added Minister Harris.
For the TU Dublin Tallaght campus expansion, it is expected that a new culinary arts, engineering and teaching building will to be built. The building will include science laboratories, lecture theatres, classrooms, administration space and ancillary space for students, which will increase student capacity by 1,200 students.
Meanwhile, the TU Dublin Blanchardstown campus will have a new general teaching building that will consist of classrooms, learning resource space, administration space and ancillary space. It will increase student capacity by 600 students.
In addition, a new digital media building will be build for the Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology. The expansion will increase capacity by 590 students, and the building will have computer laboratories, design laboratories, classroom spaces, the main campus restaurant, and ancillary space.
There are also plans for new buildings to be built at the campuses of Munster TU Kerry, Munster TU Cork, and the TU Shannon Athlone. The project is being delivered under Project Ireland 2040.
