Major affordable housing project worth £8m completed in Ayrshire town with new homes supporting all needs

A total of 52 new homes affordable homes have sprung up in Troon.

The £8 million project is one of the largest of its kind in South Ayrshire undertaken by Ayrshire Housing.

The Scottscraig Green homes include houses and cottage flats which have been built with energy efficiency in mind.

The homes were designed by architect ARPL of Ayr and built by builders Cruden. Ayrshire Housing also worked closely with Lynch Homes.

Some homes have been designed to suit all needs, with specially adapted doors and rooms for residents who need extra support.

New resident Patrick MacAskill’s was delighted with his new home which allows full access for his wheelchair.

Patrick ground floor flat has been specially adapted to include widened doorways and the provision of a hoist from the main bedroom to a large shower room.

The flat also has space for 24-hour care support which will help Patrick lead a more independent life.

Peter was joined by his parents Fiona MacAskill and Diedre Moritary on his big move in day.

Ayrshire Housing Chair, Simon Leslie said: "This development was made possible by the South Ayrshire Council's affordable housing policy. We were also pleased to work closely with Lynch Homes in realising the project within the overall masterplan for northeast Troon.

"A grant from the Scottish Government of over £4m has ensured that the rents are affordable now and in the coming years. The balance of our costs is being funded from Government facilitated bond finance through the specialist lender, Allia.

"Congratulations are also due to the builder Cruden and our architect ARPL of Ayr. We must also thank McColm civil and structural engineers, Langmuir and Hay quantity surveyors and Smart Inspections."
