Majed Al Sorour reveals he talked future of Newcastle with Reuben family as special guests visit

Majed Al Sorour has revealed that he discussed 'the future' of Newcastle with the Reuben family during the Magpies director's latest visit to St James' Park.

Al Sorour watched Newcastle United's opening day win against Nottingham Forest alongside part-owners Amanda Staveley, Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Jamie Reuben. Reuben's father, David Sr, and brother, David Jr, were also in attendance for the 2-0 victory at St James'.

The Reubens, of course, have been investors in the city Newcastle for years. After the takeover was completed last year, Jamie vowed that 'we will build a true community club based upon our family’s knowledge of the city and in line with our plans that have been worked on closely with Newcastle City Council to deliver long-term sustainable growth for the area'.

Saturday gave Al Sorour the chance to catch up with the Reubens in person and discuss what is to come.

"Great start of the season," Al Sorour wrote on Linkedin. "Was great to see Amanda and Mehrdad.

"To the Reuben family, always good to see you and talk the future of Newcastle. Having my son attend was a plus. To our chairman, thank you for allowing us to be productive."

Although Al Sorour's role only officially came to light following a Companies House update in May, the PIF advisor has effectively been on assignment since the winter. ChronicleLive previously revealed that Al Sorour, a long-time ally of chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan, was even a particularly vocal supporter of Eddie Howe behind the scenes before Newcastle's turnaround in the second half of the campaign.

Cho Minn Thant, the CEO of the Asian Tour, previously told ChronicleLive that Al Sorour was 'very confident' Newcastle would stay up last season and recalled how the Golf Saudi chief remarked: 'There was no way they were going to get relegated. Just watch.'
