Mairis Briedis willing to grant Jake Paul a shot at his world title

Mairis Briedis has confirmed he is willing to face Jake Paul for a world title in the future.

The Latvian star was in the UK watching rival Lawrence Okolie's successful title defence at The O2 arena and took to the ring to challenge his opponent to a future unification clash.

He has also frequently called out YouTube star Paul for a boxing match by dropping a 'diss track' and having a tattoo inked in a bid to set up a clash.

Breidis has now confirmed he is serious about fighting Paul and believes any world title fight would make sense to showcase the sport to "future generations".

"Yeah...," Briedis told Mirror Fighting when asked about handing Paul a world title shot. "This is a big promotion for the IBF, WBC, WBO and this old championship belt.

"The stocks go up and this is what we need you to know, people need to know these organisations but not for people who already understand it.

"We need to show younger people and future generations. He needs to train and show what happens when you are a good athlete. That is why you can’t just sit and play some computer games.

"If you train and do your best you can travel the world. I come from a family who don’t have money, but I want to thank the sport of boxing."

Briedis has previously been called out by British star Okolie for a unification clash but he instead opted to begin his relentless pursuit of Paul.

The IBF cruiserweight champion dressed as 'Mario' in response to a jibe made by Paul where he claimed to not know who he was.

Paul has made a remarkable rise in boxing and is even now promoting the undisputed female title clash between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano.

Breidis believes Paul is excellent at promoting his fights using social media, but has claimed the YouTube star has been deleting his comments.

"He is brilliant in social and how he sells his fights and how he gets the huge money in our platform of boxing," Briedis continued.

"He isn’t stupid that is why he deletes my comments on his posts, but I believe this fight happens because this is my ideas what I do with my tattoo and song. I made it interesting with this 'Mario' surprise.

"We have very good ideas but also step-by-step so we go next to Australia. But also Jake Paul if he says yes we cancel everything and face Jake Paul."

Paul is currently out of action and is waiting to return later in the year as he takes an extended break from competing in the ring.
