Main road closed after man in his 60s hit by car

A main road in Merseyside is closed after a man was hit by a car this afternoon.

Merseyside Police confirmed that officers were at the scene of a roadblock on Eastbank Street in Southport after a person was hit. The force said that it received reports of a man in his 60s being hit at around 1pm.

The injuries the man suffered aren't thought to be serious and closures are currently in place while emergency services deal with the incident.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson told the ECHO : "We are currently in attendance following a road traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian in Southport.

"We received a report at around 1pm that a man aged in his 60s had been involved in a collision with a car on Eastbank Street. His injuries are not thought to be serious.

"Road closures are currently in place as emergency services deal with the incident."

Traffic monitor INRIX said: "A570 Eastbank Street in both directions closed, heavy traffic due to accident between A565 Lord Street and Virginia Street (Shakespeare roundabout)."
