Patrick Mahomes appeared to re-aggravate his right ankle injury at the end of the second quarter of Super Bowl LVII.
The Chiefs quarterback was scrambling up the field when he was tackled from behind by Eagles linebacker T.J. Edwards.
Mahomes originally suffered a high ankle sprain on the same ankle in the divisional round of the playoffs against the Jaguars but has repeatedly given positive updates on the injury ever since. The injury hasn’t appeared to significantly hamper his play during the Chiefs’ playoff run, but his pain on the sideline was apparent.
After limping to the sideline, Mahomes could be seen writhing in pain with the team’s trainer.
The injury came at a critical point in the game, with Kansas City up against the Eagles 21–14 right before halftime. Despite the clear pain he’s in, Mahomes came out to play for the Chiefs in the third quarter.
