MUMBAI: Seeking eight days' custody of Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, the Enforcement Directorate told the special PMLA court on Monday it has been ascertained that Raut and arrested accused, his friend and businessman Pravin Raut, and HDIL promoters Rakesh Wadhawan and his son Sarang, conspired to siphon off money from the Patra Chawl redevelopment project without completing the work. The ED submitted that the accused had thus jeopardised the future of 672 tenants "whose dwellings had already been demolished".
The ED alleged that Raut and his family benefited to the tune of Rs 1.06 crore and that Raut would receive Rs 2 lakh from Pravin Raut every month. However, special judge M G Deshpande granted ED custody only until August 4. Rebecca Samervel and Vijay V Singh report.
