Maharashtra: Four killed in truck & tractor-trolley collision

KOLHAPUR: Three men and a woman died in an accident on the Solapur-Pune national highway near Kondi village located on the outskirts of Solapur city on Sunday night.

As many as 22 people from Kadamwadi village of Osmanabad district were travelling in a tractor trolley to Pandharpur's Vitthal-Rukhmini temple on the occasion of Ekadashi when the horrific crash transpired.

Solapur superintendent of police (SP) Tejaswi Satpute said, "The trolley in which the people were travelling was hit by a truck. The truck driver lost control of the vehicle due to tyre burst. Four people died on the spot, while four others are critically injured and are admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the civil hospital. Fourteen others got away with minor injuries."

She added, "The survivors are in a state of shock and don't remember much about the accident. We got a call at 10.30 pm. Therefore, we assumed that the incident may have occurred prior to that. But no survivor has been able to tell us exactly what happened and when."

The deceased have been identified as Tukaram Sudam Shinde, Bhaghabai Jarasand Misal, Jarasand Madhav Misal and Dnyaneshwar Dattatray Salunkhe. The police are yet to ascertain the identity of the injured people.
